Homeowner hires contractors to paint house for $22k, they rip out entire kitchen instead: 'I get a text saying that they finished the demo[lition] on the kitchen'

Instead of having a kitchen with a fresh coat of paint, this homeowner is now dealing with a $22,000 headache. 

Doing renovations in your home can be equal parts exciting and worrisome. On the one hand, you interview contractors and tell them your dreams for the project. In this person's case, they were looking forward to a freshly painted house, new flooring and countertops, new front and back doors, and even adding a tornado shelter in their garage. That's a big job that would probably take months, and picking the exact right contractor for the job is key. You want to trust that this person can manage the workers around them, as well as bringing in trusted experts for parts of the job they can't handle. 

This person shared the utter nightmare they're living in right now. It's an absolutely shocking story, and I wouldn't be surprised if this person had to embark on a multi-year lawsuit just to get their kitchen back.

    Yep, that's a fully gutted kitchen. Let's hope this person doesn't have to pay for this work, because they're now also going to have to pay to get the kitchen reinstalled.

    …Numerous commenters were desperate to know if this person had a lawyer or not, and I hope they had some kind of paperwork to fall back on.
